This is the second edition of the guide book 'White Water Lake
District' which was first published in 2003 - the author Stuart
Miller has completely revised and updated this new edition so that
the information is as current and as accurate as possible. The new
title better shows the wide coverage of the guide book. The first
edition soon built a reputation as being the 'must-have guide to
paddling in North West England'. Described as being 'comprehensive,
well organised and very readable' it achieved five star status in
book reviews. The book covers some 110 rivers with 700km of river
descriptions from the Scottish Border to Greater Manchester. It
covers just about every river or stream that can be paddled - from
gentle family trips on scenic friendly rivers to extreme white
water gorges - all in one of the most beautiful and popular tourist
regions of Great Britain. A key feature of the book is the quality
of the 150 detailed maps. The book also includes a full section of
advice, summary tables, information sources, etc. This new edition
has been re-designed to take advantage of full colour printing and
there are now many more excellent new photographs that make for a
book that is inspiring and a joy to read!
This collection is comprised almost entirely of images which have
never previously appeared in print. Starting in the earliest days
of photography, travelling through the war years to the post-war
period and finishing with the shipyards and pits of the 1970s, in
the last days of those industries, this collection will delight and
amaze in equal measure. This volume will draw upon the extensive
research of Living History North East. With the memories of
Sunderland residents long gone and the contribution of many of the
area's current residents, it is a book that celebrates every aspect
of life in the area. It will enthral residents and visitors alike.
Experience a seldom-seen New York City with journalists and NYC
natives Sharon Seitz and Stuart Miller as they show you the 42
islands in this city’s diverse archipelago. Within the city’s
boundaries there are dozens of islands—some famous, like Ellis,
some infamous, like Rikers, and others forgotten, like North
Brother, where Typhoid Mary spent nearly 30 years in confinement.
While the spotlight often falls on the museums, trends, and
restaurants of Manhattan, the city’s other islands have vivid and
intriguing stories to tell. They offer the day-tripper everything
from nature trails to military garrisons. This detailed guide and
comprehensive history will give you a sense of how New York
City’s politics, population, and landscape have evolved over the
last several centuries through the prism of its islands. Full of
practical information on how to reach each island, what you’ll
see there, and colorful stories, facts, and legends, The Other
Islands of New York City is much more than a travel guide.
Mastering Modern European History traces the development of Europe from the French Revolution to the present day. Political, diplomatic and socio-economic strands are woven together and supported by a wide range of pictures, maps, graphs and questions. Documentary extracts are included throughout to encourage the reader to question the nature and value of various types of historical evidence. The second edition brings us fully up to the present day. New chapters on European Decolonisation, Communist Europe 1985-9, and European Unity and Discord have been added, and others have been substantially rewritten. An even wider range of illustrations and documentary source questions are included. The book is presented in a readable and well ordered format and is an ideal reference text for GCSE and A Level students.
